What is Medical Thermal Imaging?
Medical Thermography is an imaging method that detects infrared heat from the surface of the body while producing a visual scan image. Modern thermographic imaging systems utilize sophisticated computerized processing to extract accurate data and other thermovascular information. This infrared scan image allows the doctor to analyze and monitor physiological activity. Compared with other medical imaging systems like X-ray, Ultra-Sound, CT Scans, MRI Scans that all give structural information, the imaging systems like thermographic scans and PET scans provide additional metabolic and physiologic information. Thermography effectiveness is documented with over 40 years of research and thousands of scientific studies since it was cleared by the FDA in 1982. The medical thermography system available at the Family Wellness Centre is the top industry standard digital infrared imaging system called a Spectron IR Scan. Thermography imaging is not meant to replace standard of care medical imaging systems, but, rather to complement them and add information not available in other medical imaging systems.
Why use Medical Thermal Imaging?
Medical thermal imaging is a comfortable non-invasive private procedure that doesn’t emit any form of radiation, and this sets it apart from all other medical imaging systems. Thermographic imaging equipment and technicians don’t come in contact with the body, and this sets it apart from all other medical imaging systems. Thermographic imaging gives the clinician an alternate view of possible metabolic and physiological issues in the body, most other medical imaging systems give structural information only while thermography and PET scans give physiological information along with structural information. In these ways, thermographic imaging is a very cost effective complement to other medical imaging systems.
The benefits of using Medical Infrared Imaging?
The procedure is simple, fast, performed in a relaxing manner, and 100% safe. The results are reported from themographic board certified doctors. The thermographic imaging at the Wellness Centre is used to locate inflammation, circulation problems, and neuropathic problems that can’t be detected with other medical imaging systems. Thermography can document injuries and cancers and the response to treatment in ways that other medical imaging systems can’t. The US FDA cleared the Spectron IR digital infrared imaging as an adjunctive screening and documentation tool to be used with structural imaging methods.
The FDA 510(k) indications of use for the Spectron IR System:
“The Spectron IR Clinical Infrared Imaging System is intended for adjunctive diagnostic screening for the detection of breast cancer and other uses such as: peripheral vascular disease, neuromusculoskeletal disorders, extracranial cerebral and facial vascular disease, thyroid gland abnormalities, sports injuries, and various other neoplastic, metabolic and inflammatory conditions.”
